Opal
We know that all our cats and kittens are lucky to come to Browncoat Cat Rescue, but Opal really dodged a bullet when she joined our crew. At age seven Opal had spent her entire life having kittens. This last litter was what prompted her person to get rid of her to an unknown person on the internet. And so, pregnant and alone, Opal was passed along. She had her kittens (5!) inside, but then the case worker for the person who took her in told her newest person that she and her kittens had to go...outside into the snow if came down to it. Luckily, her newest person had more care for her wellbeing than the person who let her be a baby machine for seven years, and she contacted BCR. Opal got to have a safe and secure maternity ward, to raise her kittens in safety, surrounded by a loving foster family. Unfortunately, sometime in the final weeks of her being with her original person, Opal contracted FeLV, which meant her kittens had to be raised up by her foster family, to give them the best chance at not also contracting a life threatening illness. (All kittens have since had three negative test results.)
Opal can only be adopted to a home with no cats, or FeLV positive cats, and she can certainly never go outside to infect other people's cats. Opal is a good example why inside only is safest for cats! As an indoor cat, she wouldn't have been constantly pregnant and she wouldn't have gotten a contagious disease that will rob her of the long life she deserves.
Opal is truly a gem; super sweet and affectionate, and incredibly grateful for the stability of her loving foster home.
If you can offer her a safe haven, she will appreciate you for as long as she lives!
